Purpose

The personal and authorial archive of Czechia — The Heart of Europe.

The Essays section publishes personal, opinion-based, reflective, literary, civic, critical and authorial writing connected with Czechia.

Essays are a space for different people, different registers and different viewpoints. They may be intimate, polemical, poetic, analytical, experimental, simple, complex, personal, cultural or political in tone, as long as they remain connected with the public purpose of Czechia — The Heart of Europe.

Unlike Articles, essays are not institutional public-reference texts. Views expressed in essays belong to their authors. Publication does not make an essay an official position of Civic Initiative Czechia, and the initiative does not assume responsibility for an author’s personal opinions, claims or conclusions.

Scope

What the Essays section gives room to.

Personal opinion Say what you think. Essays may defend, question, provoke, remember, criticise, praise, resist or reinterpret Czechia-related subjects from a personal position.
Memory and experience Write from lived or observed experience. Essays may begin from memory, place, language, travel, family, culture, identity, displacement, admiration or irritation.
Language and signs Follow what words do to perception. Essays may read names, translations, symbols, media habits, public speech and the emotional force of language.
Civic reflection Take a public position. Essays may speak about responsibility, recognition, institutions, networks, public habits and the civic meaning of Czechia.
Future and systems Think aloud about what comes next. Essays may speculate, warn, imagine or argue about STEM, AI, naming systems, digital knowledge and future public structures.
Style and experiment Use voice, form and tension. Essays may be literary, fragmentary, polemical, quiet, direct, lyrical, analytical or hybrid when the form serves the thought.

Guest writers

Essay submissions are welcome when they bring a real voice.

Guest writers, researchers, educators, professionals, cultural contributors and friends of Czechia may submit essay proposals or completed drafts for consideration.

Essays may be personal, reflective, opinion-based, literary, critical, polemical or experimental. They do not need to answer a public-reference question. They should carry a voice, a position or a lived angle connected with Czechia, public meaning, country identity, culture, history, language, science, technology, civic life, education, media, business, travel, innovation or future-facing systems.

  • Author responsibility Opinions, interpretations and positions expressed in essays belong to their authors. Civic Initiative Czechia does not assume responsibility for an author’s personal views, claims, conclusions or experience-based judgments.
  • Limited editorial role The initiative may proofread, correct obvious language issues, improve readability, format the text, check basic suitability and request clarification, but the essay remains the author’s voice.
  • Publication freedom Submission does not guarantee publication. Civic Initiative Czechia remains free to publish, decline, postpone, request changes, unpublish or remove an essay according to relevance, rights, safety, editorial standards, available space and project integrity.
  • Author freedom Essay authors remain free to decide where their personal writing should go. Publication through this website is not a team assignment, institutional commission or promise of continued publication.
  • Rights and third-party material Writers are responsible for authorship, permissions, quotations, images and third-party material included in the submission.

Institutional work

The initiative does not provide essays as requested team deliverables.

Organisations, institutions, schools, partners and media contacts should not request essays from Civic Initiative Czechia as collective or institutional work. Essays belong to individual authors, personal voice and free authorial direction.

When Civic Initiative Czechia acts as a team, the appropriate formats are articles, serious papers, educational material, public-reference texts, corrections, media context, cultural notes, civic explanations or similar structured work.
