  1. 1602 The Latin form Czechia is documented in historical usage, placing the short geographic name in a much older naming tradition than the modern Czech state.
  2. 1841 The English form Czechia is documented in English-language use.
  3. 1856 Another nineteenth-century English-language occurrence of Czechia is recorded, confirming that the form was not created in 2016.
  4. 1866 Czechia appears in Australian newspapers, showing that the short name circulated outside Central Europe.
  5. 1918–1960 After the creation of Czechoslovakia, Czechia appears in English-language press as a way to refer to the Czech lands and distinguish them from Slovakia within Czechoslovakia.
  6. 1993 After the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia, the Czech short form Česko is standardised. Foreign-language equivalents, including English Czechia, belong to the same short-name framework.
  7. 1997 Civic Initiative Czechia is established in Brno to support practical use, institutional recognition and international adoption of Czechia as the country’s one-word geographic name.
  8. 21 Apr 2016 The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes its factsheet explaining that Czechia is the English version of the short country name Česko, while the Czech Republic remains the formal political name.
  9. 2 May 2016 The Government of the Czech Republic adopts Resolution No. 403, approving the addition of foreign-language translations of the short form Česko to relevant United Nations databases.
  10. 17 May 2016 The Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the United Nations informs the UN that the short name to be used for the country is Czechia.
  11. 5 Jul 2016 Czechia is included in UN geographical-name and terminology records as the official English short geographic name of the country.
